Internet Without Borders Creates Central Africa Division
Paris, Feb. 19, 2018 : Internet Without Borders appoints Mr. Abdelkerim Yacoub Koundougoumi., as the head of its Central Africa division.
As a Chadian activist and Human Rights defender, and the coordinator of the Projet pour une Alternance Crédible au Tchad (Project for a credible change in power in Chad), a project to help the peaceful mobilization and the positive transformation of the Chadian society, through the use of ICT tools, Abdelkerim Yacoub Koundougoumi has an acute understanding of the stakes for cyber development and democracy in Chad, and in the region.
“This is a great opportunity to lead the fight for digital rights in the region. Internet Without Borders is mobilizing to hold both Central African governments and Internet service providers responsible for any violation of freedom of expression committed through internet shutdowns” said Abdelkerim Yacoub Koundougoumi
“Mr. Koundougoumi is a leading figure of change in Chad, and in Central Africa, which has in the past mobilized the opinion on Human Rights violations in his home country, and elsewhere in the Central Africa region. His help will be crucial“ said Julie Owono, Executive Director of Internet Without Borders.
By appointing Mr. Koundougoumi as the head of the Central Africa division, Internet Without Borders is hoping to strengthen its vigilance and work in a region where digital rights are particularly vulnerable.
