Victoire au Tchad : l’accès aux réseaux sociaux rétabli !
Internet sans frontières se réjouit de la décision du président tchadien, Idriss Deby Itno, d’ordonner le rétablissement immédiat de l’accès aux réseaux sociaux. Nous saluons une décision qui met fin à 16 mois d’une censure injustifiée, dont les conséquences graves pèseront encore longtemps sur l’écosystème numérique tchadien.
“Nous nous réjouissons que le gouvernement ait finalement entendu la voix des tchadiens, et de la société civile Internationale. Internet ne doit pas être utilisé pour servir les intérêts politiques. Nous restons vigilants, il faut maintenant obtenir une diminution du coût d’accès et une amélioration de la qualité d’Internet au Tchad. Nous invitons le gouvernement, les opérateurs de télécommunications, et la société civile tchadienne à collaborer à cette fin”, a déclaré Abdelkerim Yacoub Koundougoumi, Directeur Afrique Centrale à Internet Sans Frontières.
La restriction des réseaux sociaux a contribué à ternir d’avantage l’image du gouvernement tchadien. Le président Déby Itno semble s’être rendu compte de son erreur en ordonnant la levée de cette censure. Que espérons que cela ne se reproduira plus, la liberté d’expression en ligne est un droit”, a ajouté Blaise Noubarassem, Représentant d’Internet Sans Frontières au Tchad.
Avec 16 mois de coupure d’accès aux réseaux sociaux, le Tchad vient d’établir un record mondial, et battre son propre record : en 2016, une opération de censure similaire avait duré 235 jours, et coûté plus 18 millions d’euros à l’économie tchadienne.
