Internet Without Borders creates office in N'Djamena, Chad - Internet Sans Frontières

Paris, April 17, 2018: Internet Without Borders creates an office in N’Djamena in Chad. The decision to build a team in this country of Central Africa region comes as a partial Internet shutdown disrupts millions of Internet users’ access the main social media and messaging applications, since March 28, 2018.

Internet Without Borders will collaborate with Mr. Blaise Noubarassem to create this new office in Chad. Mr. Noubarassem is a Chadian freelance journalist. He is currently the correspondent of the German international radio Deutsche Welle in Chad. He also works for N’Djamena Radio Liberté, a radio station created by Chadian human rights organizations.

“Today, the Internet is the most important means of communication. No one has the right to prevent a people from expressing themselves through social networks. I would like to say, through this opportunity, to the mobile phone companies installed in Chad, namely Airtel and Tigo, and the government that the restriction of social networks since March 28, 2018, is a violation of human rights. I urge the Chadian government to refrain from such practices” said Blaise Noubarassem.

“With the opening of the Internet Without Borders representation in Chad, we hope to increase the protection of digital rights of Chadian Internet users, fight network shutdowns, and make the Internet accessible, secure and of good quality. Mr. Noubarassem has all the necessary qualities to make our mission succeed” said Abdelkerim Yacoub Koundougoumi, head of the Central Africa division of Internet Without Borders.

With its new office in Chad, Internet Without Borders hopes to strengthen its vigilance and action in this country where digital rights are particularly at risk.
